About

Philosophy:

First and foremost, I want to share with you the most important life lesson I have learned to date: learn to be honest with yourself.

All of us have have things that we are good at and things that we are bad at.  We all have physical and personality qualities that we like about ourselves, and others that we hate.  The facts are that (a) we are harder on ourselves than others are (read; we “look” at ourselves more than others ever care too), (b) The cliche: Nobody is perfect, (c) there is unique desires, talents, and beauty in each of us (cheesy, I know but… it’s a truth).

The key success is twofold.  First one must learn how to come to terms with the qualities about ourselves that we dislike and get over them emotional but learn how to accept them objectively.  Secondly, one must actively connect, grasp, and cultivate the qualities we like and are willing to work hard to improve.  These qualities will be the qualities that will create and grow our own self-confidence.

About me:

I was born and raised in Farmington, New Mexico (a small but ever-growing gas and oil town in the four corners area).  When I was 12 my parents quit their jobs to start their own restaurant.  This instilled in me that being a working man or woman for the sake of a pay check was one of the worst ideas a human could have.  From that point on I have strived to create a life for myself that is fulfilling in work, style, and play.

I am a graduate of the University of New Mexico with a B.A. in sociology and a minor in social welfare.  As a Sociology major, I have studied topics ranging from social control to sociobiology.  This has instilled in me a great appreciation for the world around me and has also provided me with the capacity to place issues within greater contexts.  A B.A. in sociology was a choice I made not because I wanted to get a job in the sociology/social work field after I graduated.  I chose sociology because I loved taking sociology and related courses and felt that they added to my fulfillment and personal education.

…Other such experiences that have helped me and have lead me to be able to help others are as follows:

For much of my life I have avidly participated in acting and the production side of theater.  Given that my theater groups were small, we were expected to be involved in multiple aspects of the production.  I was very involved in set design, costuming, and stage management in addition to acting.  It is through this experience that I first realized my passion for fashion and everything visual!

I have also worked as a marketing intern for mtvU and had the privilege of traveling for 6 months with the international group Up With People.  During my time in Up With People I was involved with over 50 community improvement projects in the United States, Mexico, and Thailand.  Often this meant working with others who did not even speak the same language.  Through out my time in Up With People I learned important lessons about flexibility, adaptability and cross-cultural communication.

After a stint costuming for multiple film productions, I am currently working as an Event and Wedding coordinator in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

I feel that all of these experiences and desires have now lead me to share my knowledge of fashion, style, and other image focused topics.  I am very excited to be able to add value to another’s life by sharing what I have found to love most in mine.

Cheers,

R. Tobi
